Los Angeles City Council Unanimously Votes That Corporations Are Not People
By an 11-0 vote, the Los Angeles City Council approved a resolution declaring that corporations are not entitled to the same rights as people, especially in the context of money and politics. The resolution, which needs to be approved by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, is non-binding. Nevertheless, a packed chamber that included many Occupy L.A. members erupted into a standing ovation when
the city’s lawmakers showed that they understand the Constitution better than five members of the U.S. Supreme Court.
